Hazel's Hot Shot
Hazel’s Hot Shot is proud to announce that its founder, Hazel Marshall, was honored by the DeGolyer Library at Southern Methodist University with membership in the prestigious Archives of the Women of the Southwest.
The primary mission of this library collection is to document the historical experience of women in the Southwest, with special emphasis on Dallas and North Texas, as well as a regional focus. The Archives includes papers of leaders in women's organizations and social and political reform movements; papers of outstanding women in the professions, the arts, and voluntary service. The archive collection honors female leaders over the past several hundred years who were leaders in business, politics, and civic engagement. Hazel joins approximately 150 other women, including such well known women as Barbara Bush, Maya Angelou, Ebby Halliday, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Laura Bush, Lady Bird Johnson, and Ann Richards.
Hazel was born in Blue Ribbon, Oklahoma and shortly after finishing high-school, Hazel decided she wanted to live in the “big city.” She took all the money she had, and she boarded a bus to Houston. She didn’t know anyone in Texas, but eventually made her way to Dallas. With very little borrowed money and a whole lot of courage, Hazel decided to start up a freight company. She bought a used pickup truck and started going through the phone book calling companies to see if they’d like her to make a delivery. Hazel’s Hot Shot was born.
Hazel was an entrepreneur far ahead of her time. As a single woman in the freight industry in Texas in the 1970s, Hazel faced many obstacles to success – but she persevered and continued to fight. By the time Hazel passed away on July 2, 2013, Hazel’s Hot Shot had grown to be one of the largest expedited freight companies in Texas. Hazel was a true pioneer. She was a mentor to many, a friend to all, and the center of her family. Her legacy will live on in the love and admiration of all who knew her, the success of her business, and in the Archives of the Women of the Southwest.

Load One Transportation & Logistics
For the last few years Load One has supported the charity Wreaths Across America. The charity started a number of years ago when a wreath company in Maine had extra holiday wreaths and wanted to donate them to Arlington National Cemetery. A local trucking company offered to transport them from Maine to Washington and the charity was born. Today the effort has grown and works to place wreath on every grave site not just at Arlington but every fallen soldiers grave at every military cemetery in the US. The transportation industry is the largest supporter of this effort donating the logistics, drivers, equipment and fuel to help make this a reality. For every wreath that is purchased one is donated to the cause.
This year Load One and it’s staff are proud to have sponsored over 500 wreaths so far as just part of our support. Load One will also be providing 4 units to help transport over 6,000 wreaths. Load One will again be moving two truckloads to cover the military cemeteries in Alabama and Louisiana. They are proud to again this year have a straight truck as part of the “Convoy to Arlington”.
Load One will be sending its military support trailers Patriot One and Patriot Two again this year. These two trailers symbolize the company's support of their active military and veterans. They are extremely honored as one of these trailers will be part of the ceremony on December 13th at Arlington National Cemetery. Load One will continue to support this cause and hope that you will as well. You can donate or get more information at truckloadofrespect.com or wreathsacrossamerica.org.

Mario La Barbera, President of Pival, Rose Di Pancrazio, Manager Special Projects, and their three children, Alexia, Jessica and Carl have been part of the Pival Team riding to raise funds to fight against this terrible disease. The first two years involved riding from Montreal to Quebec City in 2 days for a total of 250 km. The past 4 years has involved participating in the 401 Bike Challenge which is a 576km bike ride from the Toronto Hospital For Sick Children (SICKKIDS) to the Montreal Children Hospital. This two and a half day extreme endurance ride is to support pediatric cancer care at these two outstanding institutions. Thanks to the generous donations from some of Pival‘s suppliers, customers employees, family and friends, the Pival Team contributed over $ 140,000 to cancer research. Express Transport America
In September, Express Transport America sponsored a charity kickball team (Three Headed Monster) that plays in a tournament to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Kim Johnson of ETA, plays on the team every year. The tournament has raised nearly $100,000 in 5 years for CureSearch for Children's Cancer, an organization that works to fund various aspects of finding a cure for pediatric cancer. ETA has been a gold level sponsor for the past three years, helping to make the tournament what it is today.
